Safety

Is Memodyne Safe? 7 Medicine Groups to Check First

Quick answer

One Memodyne capsule holds far less than the doses linked to stomach upset in studies, so strong side effects look unlikely. The real watch point is L-arginine. Mayo Clinic lists seven medicine groups it can clash with, and it advises against it after a recent heart attack. Ask your doctor first.

The short answer

Is Memodyne safe to take?

For many healthy adults, likely yes at one capsule. For people on certain medicines, not without a check.

Nobody has tested the Memodyne formula for safety. Each ingredient has been studied alone, usually in grams. A capsule holds milligrams. That gap makes strong side effects unlikely, but it does not make them impossible, and it says nothing about medicine interactions.

So the right question is not only "is it safe," but "is it safe with what I already take." The sections below help you answer that with a pharmacist.

Key facts

Which safety facts matter most?

Key facts
  • One capsule a day. The caution says not to exceed the recommended dose.
  • Arginine lines: 400 mg of ingredients per capsule, about one-fifth of the smallest daily amount in sports research.
  • Mayo Clinic advises people who recently had a heart attack to avoid L-arginine.
  • Seven medicine groups can clash with L-arginine. Two tuberculosis drugs can affect niacin.
  • The label asks under-18s, pregnant or nursing mothers and anyone with a known medical condition to see a physician first.
  • Memodyne is not FDA approved. No supplement is.

Side effects

What side effects can Memodyne cause?

Mild stomach upset is the most likely one, and even that showed up in research at doses many times larger than a capsule.

Dose check

How does one capsule compare with the doses that upset stomachs?

The sports fact sheet from NIH reports stomach trouble and a slight drop in blood pressure with arginine at 9 to 30 g a day (NIH ODS, Exercise supplements). One capsule holds 400 mg of arginine ingredients.

  • 9 g is 22.5 times the arginine ingredients in one capsule.
  • 30 g is 75 times as much.
  • For citrulline, the 8 g weightlifting dose that bothered 6 of 41 people is 40 times the 200 mg in a capsule.
  • For beta-alanine, the 800 mg single dose behind tingling is 20 times the 40 mg in a capsule.

These multiples explain why mild reactions are unlikely. They do not prove safety for you, because the formula was never tested, and they say nothing about medicine interactions.

Medicines

Which 7 medicine groups can clash with Memodyne?

Mayo Clinic lists these for L-arginine. Show your pharmacist the whole label, not a screenshot of a review page (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).

Medicine groups to raise before the first capsule
Medicine groupUsed forPossible effect with L-arginine
Blood pressure drugsHigh blood pressurePressure may drop lower than intended
NitratesChest painPressure may drop too far
SildenafilErectile dysfunctionPressure may drop too far
IsoproterenolHeart rhythm, given in hospitalPressure may drop too far
Anticoagulants and antiplateletsClot preventionBleeding becomes more likely
Diabetes drugsHigh blood sugarBlood sugar may fall too low
Potassium-sparing diureticsFluid and blood pressurePotassium may build up

Niacin adds one more point. Isoniazid and pyrazinamide, two tuberculosis drugs, can interfere with niacin (NIH ODS, Niacin). Keep taking any prescription. Only your prescriber changes it.

Ask first

Who needs a doctor's go-ahead before taking Memodyne?

  • Anyone who recently had a heart attack. Mayo Clinic advises against L-arginine in that case.
  • Anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing. The label sends these groups to a physician first.
  • Anyone with a known medical condition. The label says the same.
  • Anyone on the seven medicine groups above.
  • People with asthma or gout. Both are on Mayo's list of possible L-arginine problems.

The label names no specific drug. That silence is not a green light. It means the printed caution is general, and the Mayo list fills the gap.

Know the signs

How can you tell if blood pressure or blood sugar has dropped too low?

Both can start with dizziness or weakness. Treat these as general signs, not as a test of Memodyne.

Pressure

Running low

Lightheaded on standing, near-fainting, blurred sight, queasiness, unusual tiredness.

Sugar

Running low

Shaky hands, sweating, a racing heartbeat, sudden hunger, muddled thinking.

If you use blood pressure or diabetes medicine and notice any of these after starting, check your readings and call your doctor.

Stop and call

When should you stop Memodyne and call a doctor?

  • Hives, rash, swollen lips or face, or wheezing.
  • Asthma that flares after you start.
  • Diarrhea, cramps or bloating that last more than a few days.
  • Dizzy spells, or home readings trending down.
  • A sudden hot, painful, swollen joint.
  • New or heavier bruising or bleeding.
  • A positive pregnancy test.
Call 911 for stroke signs

Sudden numbness or weakness, often on one side, sudden confusion or slurred speech, sudden trouble seeing or walking, or a sudden severe headache can mean a stroke (CDC, Stroke signs). Do not wait to see whether a capsule is the cause.

Before you start

What should you bring to a pharmacist before the first capsule?

  1. The bottle itself, or a sharp photo of the Supplement Facts panel and the caution text.
  2. A full list of your medicines, including over-the-counter pills and other supplements.
  3. The names of any blood pressure, heart, blood sugar, blood thinner or water pill you take.
  4. Your question, written down: does anything on this label clash with what I take?

Ask about niacin too. If you already take a multivitamin or a B-complex, the niacin from pills and fortified foods should stay at or below 35 mg a day, and one capsule adds 7.5 mg NE (NIH ODS, Niacin).

Keep taking your prescribed medicine while you ask. Do not stop or alter a prescribed dose without your prescriber.

Reporting

Where can you report a Memodyne reaction?

Start with your doctor or pharmacist. Then you can report it to FDA MedWatch at 1-800-FDA-1088 or online. Write down the lot number, the start date, your symptoms and everything else you took that week.

You can also tell the order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480. The distributor line printed on the bottle is Gex Corporation LLP, PO Box 12730, Ogden, UT 84404.

Memodyne is a dietary supplement. It is not FDA approved, and no supplement is. It is not meant to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Memodyne safe?

One capsule is far below the doses that caused stomach upset in studies. The formula itself has not been tested, and L-arginine can interact with several medicines. Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you take any.

Does Memodyne have side effects?

It can, though none were measured for the formula. Mild stomach upset is the most likely effect. Research saw it at doses many times larger than one capsule.

Is Memodyne safe with a blood thinner?

Ask your prescriber first. Mayo Clinic says L-arginine with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may raise bleeding risk, and the Memodyne label does not mention it.

Can Memodyne lower blood pressure?

L-arginine can lower blood pressure, and Mayo Clinic warns about combining it with blood pressure drugs, nitrates and sildenafil. If you use any, check with your doctor before the first capsule.

Is Memodyne safe after a heart attack?

Mayo Clinic advises people who recently had a heart attack to avoid L-arginine. Ask your cardiologist before using any arginine product, Memodyne included.

Do Memodyne side effects match memantine side effects?

No. Memantine is a prescription drug for Alzheimer's disease, and its side effects belong to that drug. Memodyne is a capsule of amino acids, niacin and calcium, sold without a prescription.

Our view

Our view

Memodyne looks gentle on paper. The doses are small, and the label prints every amount. The sharp edge is L-arginine and the medicines it can stack with.

Treat the pharmacist as part of the purchase. Bring the bottle, bring your medicine list and ask one question: does anything here clash with what I take? If the answer is yes, skip it or ask your doctor.
